Some commodities' prices turn higher, others keep in line with global trend
Wheat, gur, moong, urad, white and black pepper, mace soared on the commodity wholesale markets during the week ended on April 30, 2011, with other items remaining unmoved in line with global trend.
Opening days trading saw moong Punjab up by Rs 500 to Rs 9250, urad Burma better type rose by same amount to Rs 3800, makai, which depicts change after sufficient gaps was registered at Rs 2750 and Rs 2875, masoor Canada was quoted at Rs 6000, masoor dal Canada registered at Rs 7500, urad Burma low type lost Rs 50 to Rs 3200, wheat old with bardana conceded Rs 35, while new type lost Rs 20 to Rs 2340. Basmati No. 386 new gave away Rs 100 to Rs 5200 and Rs 5400.
On Jodia Bazaar kirana items (per 40-kg) white pepper ended higher by Rs 400 to Rs 32,000, black pepper Singapore rose by Rs 1100 to Rs 20,700, black pepper from Ceylon rose by Rs 1100 to Rs 20,600, mace rose by Rs 2000 to Rs 10,400, big cardamom lost Rs 3000 to Rs 87000, cloves rose by Rs 1000 to Rs 29,000, copra from India rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6700, Ajwain rose by Rs 900 to Rs 7000, while long pepper was quoted at Rs 34000.
On Tuesday generally higher trend was marked such as gur better quality gained Rs 100 to Rs 6400, while low type was put at Rs 5500. Wheat with bardana rose by Rs 15 to Rs 2340, while the other type was higher by Rs 25 to Rs 2365. Cottonseed oilcakes in Sindh with bag rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1350, while the better type was put at Rs 1380.
On Wednesday wheat with bardana repeated gain performance by Rs 20 to Rs 2360, while new type gained Rs 10 to Rs 2375. Gur low quality was up by Rs 100 to Rs 5800, while better type gained Rs 200 to Rs 6600. Cottonseed cakes with bag in Sindh lost Rs 20 to Rs 1330, while the better type lost Rs 10 to Rs 1370. Gram from Australia lost Rs 100 to Rs 4400 and Rs 4650, gram dal Australia low quality shed Rs 100 to Rs 4900, while better type lost Rs 50 to Rs 5150. Irri 6 rice low type rose by Rs 35 to Rs 3375, while better quality gained Rs 100 to Rs 3500.
On Jodia Bazaar plastic mouldings compounds (per lb) HDPE film Sangia 952 yielded Re 1 to Rs 74, TR144 lost 75-paisa to Rs 74.25, LLDPE: W118 ended down Re 1 to Rs 74. Polypropylenes film India lost Re 1 to Rs 96, pylene type grade India lost 75-paisa to Rs 88.25 Kuwait lost 75-paisa to Rs 88.25 and Saudia lost 75-paisa to Rs 88.25. Polypropylene injection grade Saudi down by 75-paisa to Rs 90.25.
On Thursday wheat old with bardana rose by Rs 5 to Rs 2365, new type also gained same amount to Rs 2360. Gur rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6000 and Rs 6800. Cottonseed oilcake in Sindh with bag lost Rs 5 to Rs 1325, while better quality lost Rs 10 to Rs 1360.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi rose by Rs 4 to Rs 52, sodium sulphate rose by 50-paisa to Rs 15, N.J. Taiwan up Rs 10 to Rs 248, formic acid Pak ended higher by Rs 50 to Rs 111, Oxalic acid China lost Re 1 to Rs 68 and citric acid China rose by Rs 2 to Rs 122.
On Friday no deal was seen on the wholesale grain and seed market, as almost all participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday most of the commodities' including moong and masoor, prices went up as buyers were active to cover the near-term needs. Moong Burma was quoted at Rs 8500, moong Punjab was higher by Rs 250 to Rs 8500, masoor Canada was registered higher at Rs 6200-6800, masoor Dal Canada rose by Rs 500 to Rs 8000, urad Burma low type was up by Rs 50 to Rs 3250 and best quality was higher by Rs 100 to Rs 3900. Wheat old Bardan and new both types gained Rs 5 to Rs 2370-2385. Grams yellow peas Canada low quality was higher by Rs 75 to Rs 3650 and better type was up by Rs 100 to Rs 3825, yellow peas dal Canada gained Rs 100 to Rs 4000-4175, yellow peas Ukraine low type rose by Rs 75 to Rs 3550 and good type was up by Rs 100 to Rs 3725, yellow peas dal Ukraine was at Rs 4025-4030. Irri-6 Sindh low type appreciated by Rs 50 to Rs 3425, while the best quality managed to hold the overnight level at Rs 3500. A solo deal was transacted on the seeds side, where cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh, started recovering lost ground, low type gained Rs 5 to Rs 1330 and good type managed to gain Rs 10 to Rs 1370.
