More Mexican power plants shut down

Units at four more power stations in northern Mexico shut down due to unusually cold weather on Friday, forcing the national electricity monopoly to continue to ask factories to curb consumption. The Federal Electricity Commission, known by its Spanish acronym CFE, said in a press release it had asked industrial customers in northern Mexico to voluntarily cut power consumption at peak times for the second day in a row due to the worsening outages.
Sporadic power outages were reported throughout the north and along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico although the CFE said the majority of customers still had power. The CFE said units at 17 power stations with 6,792 megawatts of generating capacity were offline in the north due to the cold, up from 3,800 megawatts on Thursday.
