A comprehensive report of the Standing Committee on House & Library on scandals of National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Islamabad was presented by Akram in the National Assembly on Friday.
Akram urged the Speaker and treasury as well as opposition members to support the committee for the implementation of the report for the supremacy of the Parliament. We compiled this report after six months of hard work and proper investigation. In this regard, we received many threats and political pressure, he said.
"Mr Speaker, it is your as well as government's and opposition's responsibility to implement the report, there should be ruthless accountability," he emphasised. He said that they exposed many scandals, corruption, embezzlement and irregularities in this report. He said, "The society has paid for 1100 Kanals while actual land is 230 kanals. Similarly, society has paid Rs 95 million for the development of land while the actual value of the development was Rs 4.2 million.
He said that the employees of National Assembly Secretariat were involved in these scandals. He said that the committee referred many cases to the FIA. Akram mentioned many incidents of corruption and irregularities in the House. He said that many hundred kanals land was purchased without any NOC and lay out plan through Capital Development Authority (CDA), which not only showed their incompetence but also misuse of the society' funds.
He said that the committee has done its work and now it should be ensured that report will be implemented. Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, the Chairman of this Standing Committee who was presiding the House said that the report would be implemented at any cost.
According to the report, a property dealer claimed that he had transferred 20 kanal 'malakiti' land to the Society in Moza Chocha alongwith its possession to Samar Abbas Mehdi, Patwari of the Society against an amount of Rs 15,900,000. Responding to a query, the Revenue Department apprised that only 2 kanals were taken possession of out of said 20 kanals, transferred by Khursheed Qureshi. Similarly, development work, carried out by MAB developer, was not up to the mark, and worth only Rs 4.25 million whereas they were paid exceptionally high price for that.
