The Lahore High Court Chief Justice, judges of the High Court and subordinate courts, former judges of the higher and superior courts, senior law officers, bar members and elite of the city joined the funeral of former chief justice LHC and first Ombudsman Sardar Muhammad Iqbal.
The chief justice also announced holiday at the death of Sardar Muhammad Iqbal. Chief Justice and other elite of the city also condoled with the bereaved family.
Sardar Iqbal, who was 86 survived by a widow, two sons and two daughters. He was elected as member of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) in 1958 and appointed as permanent judge of West Pakistan High Court in 1962. He also served as a member of Pakistan Election Commission from 1964 to 1967 and was elevated as chief Justice LHC in 1972. On amendment of the constitution in 1976 making the post of CJ a tenure post for four years he took a stand on principle and opted to retire instead of continuing as the senior most judge.
