KARACHI: Pakistan will be able to meet its electricity requirements by the end of this year whereas get rid of shortage of gas by 2018.
This was informed at a briefing held here at the Governor House on Tuesday under the leadership of Sindh Governor, Muhammad Zubair.
It was attended by the head of energy companies, businessmen as well as faculty members from the universities, a Governor House statement said.
The moot was aimed at apprising of the steps taken by the federal government in the energy sector.
Governor Sindh said that Prime Minister accords priority to economic development and prosperity of the country.
He informed that Pakistan would generate electricity as per its requirements by the end of this year and from the next year with the elimination of loadshedding, quite a lot of additional electricity would also be available.
Zubair pointed out that in 2012, the per unit cost of electricity was Rs. 12 which has now came down to Rs. 8.80 per unit.
Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment, Muftah Ismail, said on the occasion that with the availability of 600 million cubic feet imported gas, the shortage of gas in the country would come to an end.
He said that there is decline in reserves of gas in the country and exploring new reserves is essential besides encouraging alternatives resources.
Federal Secretary Water and Power, Younus Dagha, informed that industrial loadshedding was eliminated in 2015 whereas the loadshedding for domestic consumers has been reduced to three to four hours.
