The United States soften tone on democracy in Pakistan and hint Washington still favours President General Pervez Musharraf despite his losing grip over domestic politics in the wake of a lingering judicial and a defused media crises.
But visiting US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher says Washington will like general elections scheduled in Pakistan later this year to be free, fair and transparent.
After meeting with politicians at a reception here on Wednesday evening, Boucher did not comment on Musharraf holding two offices of the president and the military chief simultaneously. Arrived in Islamabad overnight, Boucher held talks with the chief election commissioner and Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri in the day.
