Greater Iqbal Park to fascinate local, foreign tourists: Shehbaz

imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that Greater Iqbal Park was equipped with world standard facilities, depicting cultures of all the four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, our great civilization and history, which would definitely fascinate the local and foreign tourists.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of splendid Greater Iqbal Park Project here, he said best recreational facilities were available for the citizens in the park spanning over 120 acres of land and this project was a landmark in connection with culture of Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had said one and half years ago that a splendid project with regard to history, culture and tourism of Pakistan should be made and its name should be Greater Iqbal Park. According to his orders, he said, Greater Iqbal Park project had been inaugurated today after round-the-clock work.

He said library, international standard food courts, culture of all the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, soft wheel train were presenting an attractive view for the tourists.

The Park equipped with world standard fountains and flowers would certainly become a centre for local and foreign tourists and this great park would become an identity in the world.

A historic museum was also being developed here, he added.

The chief minister thanked Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for sparing time from his engagements to inaugurate Greater Iqbal Park Project and said this project was reflective of his vision.

He also thanked Chief Secretary, Director General of Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Lahore Division Commissioner, PHA Vice Chairman and the entire team on completion of this splendid project and congratulated them on its inauguration.

He also congratulated the committee which had been constituted under the supervision of MNA Hamza Shehbaz Sharif for working day and night for this great project.

Shehbaz Sharif said dictator General Musharaf, raising the slogan of Pakistan First, ruined Bab-e-Pakistan Project.

During his tenure, the then Punjab government assigned the responsibility of this project to him and despite passage of thirteen years, this project remained incomplete.

He said national resources were looted in the name of development projects during the tenure of dictator and instead of completion, development projects were left incomplete. Loot and plunder was rampant during his tenure and rulers filled their pockets but did nothing for the people.

He said work was being carried out on development projects round the clock under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and added that Pakistan would achieve the goal of progress and prosperity under his leadership. He congratulated Habib Construction Company on completion of Greater Iqbal Project. Earlier, the PHA DG Mian Shakeel gave a detailed briefing regarding the project.
