Imran Khan to lead Boycott XI

Published December 17, 2016 Updated December 17, 2016 09:21am

imageEngland batting great Geoffrey Boycott has picked Pakistans World Cup winning skipper Imran Khan to lead his World XI side, much to the displeasure of Indians after no Indian player was able to make into the coveted list.

The 1992 World Cup winning skipper was selected on the basis of his ability to handle players, "he was strong and could handle the players," said Geoffrey Boycott while speaking in the Indian city Mumbai, reported India Today.

The other greats that make into the list were Aussies legend Don Bradman, probably the greatest cricketer ever, the bearded legend WG Grace and Sir Jack Hobbs would be the openers, while two West Indian legends Sir Vivian Richards and Sir Garfield Sobers in the mix.

"I can't pick Indians just to please you," Boycott told the audience.

However, he explained why even the cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev failed to make the list.

"I can't get in the team myself. Gavaskar was a wonderful player and friend. Can I pick him ahead of Grace and Hobbs? Grace's numbers would look rubbish with 30 something. But you can't compare with today where wickets are wonderfully prepared. Back then, pitches were full of stones. They would have to wait till 2 pm to make the pitch dry. Today they would get mad if they are given wet wickets," he explained.
