imageISLAMABAD: A high level Chinese delegation led by Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Professor Yang Xingping called on the Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar on Thursday and discussed collaboration in the areas of traditional Chinese medicines and medical care.

The delegation comprised head of Chinese Food and Drug Regulatory Authority among other senior officials.

The minister received the delegation and mentioned the deepening collaboration between the two countries over the years. She said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has brought the two peoples closer. She said, "We must benefit from the tremendous opportunities it has opened up in diverse fields."

Head of the delegation Vice Governor Sichuan Province shared with the Minister that Sichuan province was one of the large provinces of China with large manufacturing base of traditional Chinese medicines.

He informed that there were 1800 hospitals and 78,000 clinics in the province whereas over 5,000 species of herbs were being used to develop traditional Chinese medicines in the province.

He offered training of Pakistanis in traditional Chinese medicine institutions in China and establishing Chinese traditional medicine training institutions in Pakistan through mutual collaboration.

The Chinese side also offered visit of Pakistani medical professionals to the Western China hospital famous for organ transplant, for their capacity building.

Additional Secretary Health Dr Hashim Popalzai, Director General Health Dr Assad Hafeez, Joint Secretary Syed Moazzam Ali and CEO DRAP Dr Muhammad Aslam who were also present discussed areas of collaboration with Chinese technical team.

It was agreed that heads of drug regulatory authorities of both countries would undertake further discussions as a follow up to the visit of the high level delegation.
