imageKARACHI: Former Pakistan Test skipper Salman Butt led his team WAPDA to clinch their first-ever Quadi-e-Azam Trophy title, after the final ended in a draw, with WAPDA winning by first innings lead against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) here at the National Stadium on Thursday evening.

Habib Bank Limited were on the verge of an unexpected win in the final as they set a huge target of 444 runs for Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) despite conceding a first-innings lead.

The final of QEA2016 was marked with HBLs fantastic comeback in their second innings after Imam-ul-Haq, nephew of Inzamam-ul-Haq, top scored with 200 not out, while Fakhar Zaman and Ahmed Shehzad made 170 and 104 not out respectively, declaring at 485 for 1.

However, WAPDA under the captaincy of Salman Butt, who remained not out for 105 in the second innings after scoring 125 in the first, were able to wither HBL challenge and ended the final day for 198 at the loss of three wickets.

imageSalman Butt was declared, player of the match for scoring consecutive centuries in the first and second inning of the match. Meanwhile, batsman Kamran Akmal was awarded the best batsman of the tournament for scoring the highest number of runs.
