KARACHI: A spokesman for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Wednesday strongly rebutted a news item reported by a section of media that the ill-fated ATR aircraft (PK-661 flight) had some known defect and yet was operated on the instructions of the Director Flight Operations.
The spokesman, in a statement issued here said such reports were baseless and reiterated that both engines of the aircraft were fully operational at the time of take off from Chitral and some problem developed during flight.
He further said, "The matter is being investigated by an independent body, Safety Investigation Board (SIB), which is under instructions from the Prime Minister of Pakistan that a detailed, independent and transparent inquiry be carried out and truth should be brought out and shared with the people in the shortest possible time."
