imageISLAMABAD: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Supreme Court Wednesday said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was playing the role of a facilitator for the corrupt.

He made the remarks while heading a division bench along with Justice Umar Ata Bandial, which heard the bail application filed by Raja Baber Zulqarnain, the son of a former Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) president.

Justice Azmat Saeed asked as to how much (amount) was being received from the accused of Rental Power Plants (RPPs) case for not arresting them. The Director General NAB Rawalpindi informed the court that the Bureau had a specific policy for arresting the accused. Those, who either helped in investigations and returned embezzled amount voluntarily or were senior citizens, were not arrested, he added.

Justice Azmat observed that the instant matter was of $128 million, but no arrest warrants of the accused had been issued as yet.

The court directed the Bureau to submit evidence and filed a reference against accused Baber Zulqarnain.

The judges warned that if the reply was not submitted before next date of hearing, the NAB chairman would have to appear himself before the court.

The case was adjourned till first week of January 2017.
