At least 14 persons, including four women and a child were killed and six wounded when a speedy van rammed a roadside shop in Barakahu in the outskirts of the federal capital, after one of its tyres burst on Saturday.
Police said that the tragedy occurred at about 10:45 am when a van of Route 127 was heading towards Barakahu from Aabpara. The driver lost control after a tyre burst and the vehicle strayed into roadside general store.
According to the hospital staff, 12 bodies were brought to the Islamabad Services Hospital and other two were taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The injured being treated in the Services Hospital are stated to be stable.
The van driver and two other passengers died on the spot while 10 persons succumbed to their injuries on way to hospitals, the police said.
Some of the bodies have been identified as Tahir Manzoor 45; Mohammad Kamal son of Fazal Hassan; Kamran Shazad; Zarda Bibi 45; Nazra Bibi 50; Wali Dad and Zahid Hussain.
Other bodies which are yet to be identified. The injured include Bushra 22, Rahila 40, Sajjad 35, Maskeen 35, Alauddin, Karim Dad, Gul Baz a one and half month old Maryam and a woman.
