imageISLAMABAD: International experts here on Friday stressed the need for proper supply of energy to textile industry in the country for enhancing its manufacturing and value addition and capture large share of exports in international market.

In last year, Pakistan's cotton production was low because of climate change and different virus attacks on the crops for which pre-emptive measure need to stop such losses in future, Executive Director, International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) Jose Sette said ,who is currently participating here in 75th Plenary Meeting of ICAC hosted by Ministry of textile Industry in collaboration with ICAC here.

One of the greatest challenges for cotton sector in Pakistan was energy shortage, which needed to be addressed for industrial growth in textile sector, he told APP on Friday.

Replying to question, he said that Pakistan had had huge potential in cotton production and textile manufacturing to penetrate in the international market.

Executive Director, ICAC said that efforts by the government to overcome the power shortage would play vital role for promoting textile industry and enhance its manufacturing.

He said that he along with his delegation was enjoying hospitality and warm welcome in Pakistan.

On the occasion, head of United States delegation and Cotton Analytic Terry P. Townsend said "today cotton is Pakistan's most important crop and the backbone of its industry" adding the country was also a major player in world cotton market.

Pakistan's average around two million tons production making it the fourth largest cotton producer in the world.

Replying to a question, he said that lot of more efforts needed to increase the production of crop as well as value addition and get better ranking for competing with other regional and global competitors in production and manufacturing.

Another international expert on cotton and fiber, Andreas W Engelhardt commenting on current challenges facing by textile sector in Pakistan said that modernization of Agricultural infrastructure needed for better cotton production in the country.

Modern irrigation system, quality seeds and high quality ginning tools required for more production in this sector, he added.
