LAHORE: Provincial Energy Minister Chaudhry Sher Ali said on Friday that not only loadshedding would be diminished with the completion of energy generation projects but electricity would also be available in abundance for agriculture, industry and other sectors of the country by 2018.
Talking to this scribe, he said work on 3,600 megawatts gas-based power projects was continuing apace. He said energy projects would help overcome energy crisis to a large extent.
He said the incumbent government was determined to steer the country out of darkness and rid the people of loadshedding.
"Attaining economic development and prosperity is the priority agenda of the government that is why electricity generation projects are being accomplished speedily," he said.
Answering a question, the minister said planning had been made for setting up small coal power plants near load centres in seven big cities. Besides Lahore, he said, small power plants of 55x2 megawatt running through coal would be set up in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Multan.
He said owing to this step of the Punjab government, 1100 megawatt electricity would be generated in next 20 months.
