ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal on Wednesday said the supply of petrol was normal and there was no shortage of fuel in the country.
"The temporary shortage happened due to the panic buying and stocking of fuel after spreading of rumours regarding impending fuel shortage in the country", he said while speaking in Senate in response to an adjournment motion moved by Senator Dr Ashok Kumar regarding dispute between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) due to which shortage of petrol was likely to be emerged in the month of Ramazan.
He said in future, the government would ensure smooth supply of petrol in the country and no such situation would happen again.
He said if any one find such situation in any area of the country, a complaint can be lodge in this regard in the ministry of petroleum and natural resources.
He said the monthly fuel consumption of the country was about 4,98000 tons while local production of the fuel was 137,000 tons while the government imports the remaining 361,000 tons of fuel.
