Turkish lira at 3-week high amid improved emerging market sentiment

imageISTANBUL: Turkey's lira hit a three-week high on Friday despite tensions still running high on its southern border with Syria, as emerging markets rebounded on comments suggesting US policymakers favour delaying an interest rate hike.

The lira firmed to 2.2470 against the dollar by 1440 GMT from 2.2670 late on Thursday. It was its firmest level since Sept. 25.

The main share index closed up 1.28 percent to 75,533, outperforming the broader emerging markets index , which was up 0.61 percent.

The 10-year benchmark bond yield inched down to 9.08 percent from Thursday's 9.11 percent.
