imageISLAMABAD: Chairperson, Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP), Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that launching of Prime Minister's Fee Reimbursement Scheme in the underdeveloped areas would usher in a new era of human and social development in the country.

This is the top priority of the present government, she stated while co-chairing a post-launch review meeting along with Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here.

While approving the next schedule of 100pc fee reimbursements for the 30,000 students of Sindh, Punjab Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan, Maryam Nawaz Sharif told the participants of the meeting that Prime Minister's Fee Reimbursement Scheme for the less developed areas would encourage the students there.

She said that it would also help them undertake higher academic pursuits in order to contribute substantially towards the progress and prosperity of their respective areas in particular, and the country in general.

She further maintained that during the coming weeks students from other districts of the federation would also receive the fee reimbursement cheques.

The Chairperson while apprising the Minister for Finance said "focus of this scheme is to chisel and brush up the latent talent of the youth of the country and also to provide equal opportunities for acquiring higher education to the students of underdeveloped areas vis-?-vis their counterparts dwelling in the metropolis."

She said that now financial constraints would not stop the students to earn higher degrees.

Prime Minister's Fee Reimbursement Scheme for the less developed areas was officially launched on Thursday (yesterday) at Quetta.

The scheme would reimburse 100% educational expenses of the students enrolled in MA, MS, PhD, and M Phill from 59 less developed districts of Southern Punjab, Rural Sindh, Balochistan, KPK, GB and FATA.

About 35,000 students would be catered to with the budget allocation of Rs 1.2 billion at an average of Rs. 40,000 per student on annual basis.

The meeting was attended by Advisor to Finance Minister, Secretary Finance and other senior officials of the PMYP.
