ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is to increase Discos’ power tariff by 30 paisa per unit for September 2013 under the monthly fuel adjustment formula.
The authority is scheduled to hear the petition of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on October 23, 2013.
The CPPA in its petition submitted to the regulator reveals that hydel generation in September stood at 4,141.74 GWh and its share in total generation was 44.16 percent, but failed to mention the cost of generation. Generation from coal stood at 6.21 GWh at Rs 3.6118 per unit, generation from High Speed Diesel (HSD) was 115.84 GWh at Rs 23.0164 per unit, Residual Fuel Oil (RFO) 3,128 GWh at Rs 15.5711 per unit, generation from gas recorded at 1407.82 GWh at Rs 4.8362 per unit, nuclear 431 GWh at Rs 1.3228 per unit, import from Iran 38.80 GWh at Rs 10.55 per unit, mixed 91.05 GWh at Rs 8.4517 per unit and wind power 35.07 GWh.
Generation cost of wind power has not been mentioned in the tariff petition. Power generated from all sources stood at 9,378.82 GWh at Rs 59.90679 billion at a rate of Rs 6.3875 per unit. After including other charges, the CPPA has revised fuel charges at Rs 6.5469 per unit.
On the basis of data, the CPPA has sought an increase of Rs 0.2976 kWh over the reference fuel charges, ie, Rs 6.2493/kWh.
Nepra has invited all the interested/affected parties to raise written/oral objections as permissible under the law at the public hearing.
Pursuant to section 31(4) of the Nepra Act (XCL of 1997) and mechanism for monthly fuel adjustment prescribed by the authority in the tariff determinations of Discos, Nepra is authorised to review and revise the approved tariff on account of any variations in the fuel charges on monthly basis.
