KARACHI: Transporters on Tuesday demanded government protection for public vehicles plying in the city.
Ashraf Banglori, President, Karachi Transport Action Committee and other members in a joint statement said damage caused to their vehicles during any unrest in the city is not only a cause of heavy financial loss but also a severe risk to the drivers, conductors and passengers.
‘The situation despite presence of concerned agencies responsible for peace maintenance is beyond comprehension,’ said the transporters.
They demanded that an efficient strategy must be urgently evolved to counter unscrupulous and mischievous elements responsible for creating law and order situation.
The transporters also sought for early compensation for the loss caused to them as in most cases the vehicles were severely burnt beyond repair.
