Bangladesh pharma sends COVID-19 drug to Pakistan to treat patients

Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical firm, Beximco Pharmaceuticals has some COVID-19 drugs to Pakistan for critically ill coronavirus patients by a special cargo flight.

As per The Daily Star, a spokesperson of Beximco said the medicine was sent to Pakistan on request of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka for three critically ill Covid-19 patients. “Beximco sent 48 vials/injections of Bemsivir (which is a brand name for antiviral drug Remdesivir),” the spokesperson told.

Beximco is the first company in the world who developed and introduced generic Remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19. “Remdesivir is a direct-acting viral drug that inhibits viral RNA synthesis. It is administrated intravenously and is authorized for the treatment of hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 disease.”

Earlier, pharmaceutical firm Searle announced that it has entered an agreement with Beximco Pharmaceuticals.

The company informed that the partnership will provide an immediate supply of the finished product at an affordable price and will help health care providers of Pakistan to treat their hospitalized COVID-19 patients without any delay. The company added that it is also planning to donate a sizeable quantity of the drug to the Government of Pakistan.
