The city's traders are set to hold a one-day hunger strike against FBR's taxation policies today [Thursday], saying that the small businessmen are near to bankruptcy in the wake of IMF 'pleasing' economic conditions. Members of Grand Traders Alliance will take to the M A Jinnah Road to hold token hunger strike from 10am until 6pm near Lighthouse, Chairman Sindh Tajir Ittehad, Jamil Paracha, who is spearheading the protest, told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
"We are holding a one day hunger strike to show the FBR that small traders have reached the level of hunger from its IMF pleasing policies," he said, adding that "traders will never accept identity card condition on Rs 50, 000 sales and that the turnover tax".
"Traders will accept only the justified taxes," he said, adding that the FBR should end the 'unjust' taxation policies. In the evening the same day, he said, central leaders of All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran will talk to the press to show their resentment against the taxation policies.
