Protest: Indian forces arrest former J&K CM Abdullah’s sister, daughter in Srinagar

• Demonstration was aimed to raise a voice against the abolition of the region's special status in August.
• As protesters gathered at Lal Chowk, women police and paramilitary personnel surrounded them.
• Indian forces are not only subjecting the innocent people to torture but they are also breaching the LoC agreement.

(Karachi) Police and paramilitary personnel in Srinagar have arrested a number of protesters, including former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah's sister Suraya and daughter Safia, following protests by women, BBC Urdu News reported on Tuesday.

The demonstration in India-administered Kashmir was aimed at the Indian government to raise a voice against the abolition of the region's special status in August.

As the protesters began gathering near the Press Colony at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, women police and paramilitary personnel surrounded them.

Before being pushed into the police van, Omar Abdullah's sister Suraya said, “Look how these people are treating women. Then they say that the situation here is normal. Is this normal?”

Social activist Qureen Ain also criticized the police action, saying, “India has left Kashmir at the mercy of the situation.”

She maintained, “We're getting in here and saying that everything is normal.”

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogan “Kashmiri brides are not for sale” and “Stop lying to the nation.”

Situation in occupied Kashmir remained tense while Indian brutality is increasing day by day. The Indian forces are not only subjecting the innocent people to torture but they are also involved in breaching the Line of Control agreement.

Pakistan and international community have raised the matter on different forums but the Modi-led government continues to exercise misuse of power by killing Kashmiri people. The lockdown in held valley by India has destroyed businesses and all network connections, including internet, mobile phones were jammed.
