Coming as a breath of fresh air for all Pakistanis that are in full swing to celebrate Eid-ul Fitr, cellphone service providers will not be deducting taxes on mobile cards for 15 days starting from Thursday (today).

The development comes after the Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar suspended all kinds of tax collection on mobile cards on Monday. As per media reports, that customers will get Rs 100 as a whole on Rs 100 card without any tax deduction.

However, during the period the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), mobile phone companies and other stakeholders will sit together to devise a new mechanism for tax deduction from those coming in the tax net.

All sort of telecom services i.e. voice calls, SMS, mobile internet and value added services will be exempted from taxes.

Prior to this development, mobile users were paying almost 42 percent tax on balance cards, which included 19.5pc Federal Excise Duty (FED), 12.5pc With Holding Tax (WHT) and 10pc service/ maintenance charges.
