MELBOURNE: British fourth seed Andy Murray reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Monday after Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan retired with a hip injury early in the third set.
Murray, a two-time Melbourne finalist, was well in control at 6-1, 6-1, 1-0 at the time of the retirement and will now play either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Kei Nishikori in the quarters.
