When the workers raised the slogan," We did not bow yesterday and will never bow today, the prime minister in response made a 'victory sign'.

The workers also warmly welcomed Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira as he entered the hall. The Minister raised his hands in respose to their slogans.

The event was arranged by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in connection with Labour Day to pay homage to the martyrs of Chicago who had laid down their lives in a fight against their rights.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Minister Syed Khursheed Shah, Minster of State Shaikh Waqas Akram, Labour Leader Ch.Manzoor spoke on the occasion and paid tribute to the martyrs of Chicago.

They said the world today has accepted the rights of labourers after their great sacrifices and the Chicago movement is still alive. They said that a lot of efforts were made by the exploitative forces to ravage the labour community but they did not succeed in their nefarious designs.

They said that the government has taken some important practical steps to improve the condition of the workers to guarantee their dignity and rightful place in the society.

They said both Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto struggled for the rights of the labourer and working class. They said that not only the PPP derives its strength from the workers of Pakistan, but these workers are backbone of any society. The claims of development remain meaningless until this vulnerable class is emancipated and rehabilitated, they said.
