KARACHI: Leader of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KKCI) would hold a peaceful protest demo on 5th April from 03:00 pm to 07:00 pm at Polo Ground against worsening law and order situation in Karachi, announced trader leader Qasim Teli.
Addressing a press conference on Monday at the KCCI, he said that the traders were facing immense problems due to poor law and order in the metropolitan. He said the criminal activities are increasing day by day including killings and kidnappings of traders and their harassment by ‘extortionist mafia’. Qasim Teli said the KCCI and its members are not part of the any political party, adding traders pay taxes to the government but it has failed to provide them security. Due to political pressure, the police do not take action against criminal elements, he regretted.
He demanded of the government to provide security of life and property to traders. He said the Sindh government should provide system to detect location of mobile phone users the police within four to six days, besides immediately blocking unregistered mobile phone SIMs, install hidden cameras and establish police pickets in all markets and industrial areas of the city within five to six days. He demanded that the government should use police only for protection of people and not for VVIP duties.
He demanded issuing weapon licenses to the industrialists and traders, and provide them security on permanent basis.
He said the KCCI has invited top leadership of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) to KCCI to discuss the law and order issue of the city.
Qasim Teli warned that the traders of Karachi would go on shutter down strike for infinite period from 12th April 2011, if the government failed to meet their demands.
Member KCCI Majeed Aziz, Haroon Farooqui, Maqsood Ismial, Mohammad Zubair Motiwala, Tahir Khaliq and other traders were preset.
