ISLAMABAD: Federal Secretary for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Masood Chushti on Saturday filed a reference in the Supreme Court of Pakistan to reopen the murder case of Zulifikar Ali Bhutto, former Prime Minister and founder chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday accorded his approval for filing of the reference in the SC.
Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar had said," the President enjoys powers under Article 186 of the Constitution and has signed a reference for the reopening of Bhutto's murder case".
Bhutto was the first elected prime minister of the country and was hanged in 1979.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan received a reference Saturday from President of Pakistan under article 186 of the Constitution for revisiting the case of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto reported as PLD 1979 SC pages 38-53, said a press release on Saturday.
The reference has been filed through Ministry of Law, Government of Pakistan which has been registered in Supreme Court as Reference 1,2011.
The reference is being put up before the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
