LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Friday sent PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi, involved in the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) scam, to district jail on 14-day judicial remand.
On Friday, Moonis was presented before the court amid strict security after a delay of three hours.
During the hearing, the FIA requested the court to send the accused to jail on judicial remand as it had completed interrogation.
Moonis's counsel requested the court to shift the accused to a rest-house or declare his residence sub-jail because of security reasons.
However, Judicial Magistrate Irfan Basra rejected the request made by the counsel and ordered to send him on judicial remand.
A large number of PML-Q workers were present on the occasion.
Moonis Elahi surrendered to FIA officials on March 17 after a division bench of the Lahore High Court rejected his bail petition against the orders of a banking court for his arrest in the NICL scam.
Additional Director General FIA Zafar Quershi told the LHC that FIA had evidence and witnesses against Moonis Elahi.
He said that Rs 320 million were transferred from NICL to bogus accounts and during investigation it was discovered that the amount was later transferred to Moonis.
