road-construction 400ISLAMABAD: National Highway Authority has signed two agreements with two Chinese construction companies here for rehabilitation of flood damaged roads.

 

To this effect a memorandum of Understanding was signed by Government of Pakistan with Chinese Government in December 2010 during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan for an amount of US $ 190 million for 2010 Flood Damages Restoration of National Highway Network.

 

Chairman NHA Muhammad Javed Iqbal Awan, Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan Liu Jian, Commercial Counsel Li Shao Tong and representatives of Chinese construction companies were also present.

 

Expressing views, Javed Iqbal Awan recalled the exemplary cooperation between Pakistan and China in construction sector. He said vast opportunities exist to further expand this cooperation and now, he added, roads damaged during flood of 2010, will be rehabilitated with financial assistance of China.

 

He said, under the agreement, Chinese firm M/s China Yunnan Sunny Road & Bridges Co. Ltd. will rehabilitate 163 Km long south sections in Sindh which include Sehwan-Dadu City, Khairpur Nathan Shah-Mehar of Indus Highway and Hala-Moro, Pano Aqil-Ghottki, Ghotki-Sarhad and Sarhad-Dharki Sections of N-5.

 

Likewise M/s China Railway Bureau Group Co. will rehabilitate north section of Shikarpur-Ghouspur & Thakot Bridge to Raikot segment of Karakoram Highway. Javed Iqbal Awan informed that designs of these projects have already been completed and job will be realized in 30-months period. He said completion of rehabilitation work will further cement friendly ties between the two neighbouring countries.

 

Chinese Ambassador Lin Jian said, this financial assistance is a gift from Government of China for the Government of Pakistan and it will benefit the people of Pakistan at large. He assured to continue this cooperation and extend range of this working relationship to other sectors as well.
