ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani said Monday that there would be dire requirement of establishing another urea fertilizer plant by 2014 to cater to increasing demand of the fertilizer and avoid its import.

"At the moment we are self-sufficient till 2013 in urea production provided full gas is supplied to fertilizer plants, the federal minister said while talking to a two-member delegation of a German Company UhdeGmbH led by Asadullah Kazmi.

Other member of the delegation was Lothar Jungemann, Member of the Executive Board of UhdeGmbH presented company's profile book to Minister.

Another urea fertilizer production plant is must to be operational in 2014 to avoid spending of huge foreign exchange on urea import, the federal minister remarked.

The company delegation discussed various aspects and possibilities for establishment of fertilizer plant in Kuwait and informed the Minister that cost of fertilizer production in Kuwait could be cheaper and Pakistan would have to bear transportation charges only.

The Minister while welcoming the move said that any proposal submitted to government would be discussed in threadbare adding that if a proposal is viable, it would be submitted to Cabinet for approval.

"Every step would be taken immediately provided it is in the best interest of the both the investor and the country," the Minister added.
