Australia shares gain 0.5pc to 3-week high

MELBOURNE: Australian stocks bounced from early lows to finish up 0.5 percent on Tuesday at a three-week high, though volumes remained below average as investors squared positions ahead of the end of the quarter.

The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index gained 22.2 points to 4,755.8, according to latest data, the highest close since March 9. The index edged lower on Monday, ending a six-day winning streak.

New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index ended 0.4 percent firmer at 3,421.2.
