ISLAMABAD: National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW) would arrange a consultative meeting on March 29 to discuss the implementation process of 18th amendment and its implications from gender perspective.
The key persons from Constitutional Reform Committee for the implementation of 18th amendment for briefing about the impact of devolution process and specific roles and responsibilities of key players at the provincial and regional level from gender equality perspective.
Chairman of committee, Raza Rabbani will make a detailed presentation and answer the queries by provincial policy makers, decision makers as well as media.
Ministers, provincial secretaries and civil society representatives would participate in the consultation.
The meeting will take up the issues regarding prevailing gender discriminatory policies identified by NCSW detailed research based study conducted last year.
NCSW in its study reviewed the policies that perpetuate gender inequality in the country with recommendations to reverse the adverse impact of such policies.
The study specifically focuses on labour, education, health, social protection, procedural policies on family laws and violence against women and conflict and security policy issues.
The study was an attempt to locate policy concerns that are derived from the specific issues faced by Pakistani women with a focus on current policy concerns rather than outlining long-term visionary goals for gender equality.
NCSW intends this study to be used as a live document drafted in a local framework rather than an international one.
It offers guidelines in approaching, understanding and rethinking gender policy in the immediate time-frame for policy makers and other stakeholder.
The study was completed before the passage of 18th amendment and now situation has totally changed and it is urgently required to undertake advisory consultation meeting with the relevant policy makers from all the provinces and regions including AJK and FANA to end prevalent structural gender inequalities and violence against women.
