Published Updated

KARACHI: At least three people were gunned down by unknown persons in the Ranchor Lines area Aaj TV reported on Saturday.

Around 130 people were killed in the month of March in different incidents across the metropolis, which includes civilians, policemen and political workers.

The number of deaths are rising everyday due to the failure of the government and police in controlling crime and target killings in the city.

Although law enforcement agencies are patrolling different areas of the metropolis, raiding suspected hide-outs of armed gangs and arresting a few of the culprits, tension still remains high in many areas.

Most of the victims have been civilians, others were political workers of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and Sunni Tehreek, while a number of policemen were also targeted in the recent unrest.

Unknown armed people also targeted offices of different political parties and threw hand grenades at them.

Several tortured dead bodies were also found in bags in Karachi.

On Monday, Karachi police chief, Fayyaz Leghari said in a press conference that police have arrested three culprits involved in the killings.

Being a soft target for armed gangs such killings have been taking place every two to three months since 2008 in Karachi.

More than 2,000 people have fallen victim to target killings in the city in the last three years.
