Hong Kong shares end 0.76pc higher

HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares ended 0.76 percent higher on Tuesday, in line with regional markets amid hopes Japanese crews are close to resolving the nuclear crisis.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 172.68 points to close at 22,857.90 on turnover of HK$73.95 billion ($9.50 billion).

Chinese shares closed up 0.34 percent, with banks and metal firms leading the gains, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was up 10.0 points to 2,919.14 on turnover of 120.2 billion yuan ($18.2 billion).
