 ISLAMABAD; The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on 10 March, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered increase f 0.59 percent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 299.36 points as against 297.61 points registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. SPI for the combined group registered increase of 0.25 per cent as it went up from 284.88 points in the previous week to 285.59 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 16.76 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs.3001-5000 and Rs.5001-12000 increased by 0.54 percent and 0.49 percent respectively while for the income group above Rs.12000, the SPI witnessed very nominal decrease of 0.01.

During the week under review average prices of 11 items registered decrease, while that of 29 items increase with the remaining 13 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included diesel, petrol, tomatoes, kerosene, onions, egg hen (farm), chicken (farm), tea (prepared), gur, red chillies and mash pulse (washed).

The items which registered increase in their prices included potatoes, lawn, sugar, coarse latha, cooked dal, bananas, shirting, washing soap, cooked beef, curd, voil (printed), mutton, LPG(11 kg cylender), milk (fresh), firewood, electricity bulb, beef, wheat (average quality), wheat flour )average quality), rice (irri-6), bath soap, mustard oil, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (loose), moong pulse (washed), gram pulse (washed), garlic, masoor pulse (washed).

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice basmati (broken), bread (plain), milk (powdered), salt (powdered), tea (packet), cigarettes, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, match box, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges and telephone local call.
