Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Monday urged federal and provincial governments to accept the demands of business community for resumption of trade under standard operating procedures (SOPs).

MQM-P sought the SOPs from the business community to put it forward to prime minister and other government departments after MQM-P convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui met with a delegation of business community here on Monday.

Siddiqui said it was the responsibility of Sindh government to help the traders and businessmen when it imposed a lockdown and noted that traders of Sindh went one year back due to measures taken by provincial government to control Covid-19.

He vowed to stand by business community of Karachi in this difficult time and declared that it would not indulge in political point scoring on this issue.

He demanded that small and medium size businesses should be allowed to operate when provincial government allowed opening some industries of their choice.

MQM-P convener noted that people would die of hunger in those countries which would not find out a way to resume the economic activities along with taking measures to control pandemic.

He said nation has to fight against Covid-19, however at the same time it would have to fight against hunger and unemployment. He said that Pakistan moved forward when Karachi runs at its potential.

He assured the trading community that party would convey their concerns to relevant quarters to resolve their issues. Traders told MQM-P convener that Sindh government didn't give any relief despite making promises and added that party should convey their voice to the power corridors.

Businessman Atique Meer said business should be allowed under SOPs and pointed out that small traders are facing difficult times due to shut down of their businesses.
