Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Limited (PIBTL) is working on setting up LPG handling facility at Port Qasim as part of its expansion plan and has received NOC from Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA).

The company is planning LPG handling facility with local business partner which will make investment in LPG storage facility while PIBTL will invest in infrastructure required for LPG handling. The company will be able to increase its dollar-based revenue by invested in this project. To highlight PIBTL is currently charging $ 6.5/ton and $ 5.5/ton for coal and clinker handling.

Majority of Pakistan coal imports are handled by PIBTL, which was set up as part of CPEC. In year ending June 2019, PIBTL handled 8.5 million tons of cargo which was 212 percent more than preceding year. Due to efficient and timely handling, companies prefer PIBTL terminal as the company has handled 4.5 million tons of cargo in first six months of FY20, source said.

To fully integrate the terminal as per master plan, Pakistan Railways has recently worked out on a plan for constructing a rail track to facilitate coal transportation at PIBT. Pakistan Railways has prepared PC-1 (form) to lay down 6-kilometer track from PIBT to Juma Goth junction to carry out the exercise of transportation of coal to the designated destination. Pakistan Railways would earn significant amount of revenue from coal transportation as seen in case of Sahiwal jetty at which 4 million tons of imported coal has been transported from PQA to Sahiwal through railway and on which Pakistan Railways has earned more than Rs12 billion.
