  • PM Khan appreciated Telenor's confidence in Pakistan due to its presence in the country since 2005 with an investment of around $3.5 billion.

The Norwegian multinational telecommunications company, Telenor has reiterated its commitment to enhance Pakistan technology sector.

Chairperson Telenor Ms. Gunn Waersted and CEO Telenor Mr. Sigve Brekke called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of WEF Annual Meeting 2020 at Davos.

Advisor on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, SAPM Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Ambassador at Large on Investments Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, Governor State Bank Raza Baqir were also present in the meeting.

The Prime Minister appreciated Telenor's confidence in Pakistan due to its presence in the country since 2005 with an investment of around $3.5 billion. He also emphasized the government’s focus on investment in the training and development of youth for skills enhancement.

Discussions were held on enhancing application of digital solutions for good governance, poverty alleviation through use of connectivity and increased economic transactions through mobile.

Back in December, Telenor became the first telecom service provider in the country that has enabled Fiber to the Tower (FTTT) on its network.

The FTTT technology enables Telenor to be 5G ready while allowing for much higher bandwidth transport capability for every FTTT-powered site. The technology would also improve network reliability in extreme weather conditions gaining significant advantage over conventional solutions allowing Telenor customers to experience uninterrupted data services.
