No government authority has so far contacted the goods transporters, who are on strike for last four days, leaving the trade with additional financial burden of millions in terms of shipping charges. Talking to Business Recorder, Ghulam Yasin, Chairman, United Goods Transport Alliance (UGTA) said that no government authority Thursday approached them for negotiations.

"However, there are some unconfirmed reports that Chaudhry Sarwar Governor Punjab and Ali Zaidi federal minister for ports and shipping are expected to meet the protesting transporters on Friday," he maintained. He vowed that the strike, which entered fourth day, would not be called off till the acceptance of the demands.

He said that the government should enforce axel-load-regime as per the court's directives and cargo loading should be controlled from the source except. Meanwhile, Muhammad Yahya, President, Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) demanded of the government to intervene and end strike on immediate basis in order to avoid 2013-like situation.

He said that trade was suffering huge financial losses in terms of shipping charges, which had direct impact on foreign reserves as these shipping companies used to collect charges in dollars and repatriate the same to their parent concerns.
