Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif's close aide Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Monday recorded his statement before the team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at its regional office in a case involving Accountability Judge Arshad Malik video probe.

A four-member FIA team is investigating into the purported videotape in which Accountability Judge Arshad Malik had allegedly confessed to have convicted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Mills reference for seven-year imprisonment under pressure. Pervaiz Rashid remained at the FIA office for over an hour and recorded his statement before the FIA team. The PML-N leader expressed surprise over stringent security measures in and around FIA office and asked "why so much security has been set up for him only?" "Are so many policemen deployed to conquer Kashmir?" he questioned.

After recording statement before the FIA team, Pervaiz Rashid talking to the media lashed out at the ruling PTI government for putting political opponents in jails. "The FIA is being used. Such a job was being taken from the FIA which doesn't fall under its jurisdiction."

The PML-N leader said the person who used to say that he wouldn't give NRO, has now been giving NRO to his friends while referring to an amendment made to the National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019. When asked about his today's appearance, the PML-N leader remarked that he was asked questions in a disorderly fashion."I was asked that who were present during the press conference. [you have] called me here to ask this?" "Everyone knows who was present at the press conference," he said.

Earlier, PML-N Deputy Secretary General Attaullah Tarar also appeared before the FIA investigation team on December 27 while the FIA team had also raided the Model Town Secretariat, the central office of the PML-N in Lahore, and seized key records in connection with the judge video scandal.

In a statement, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that innocent members of opposition parties are bearing jail terms for 15 months without any solid proof. The only crime of PML-N General Secretary Ahsan Iqbal was that he exposed ineligible leaders of PTI, she added.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Prime Minister cannot become a capable person by putting the opponent behind the bars. False allegations were leveled against the PML-N leaders, but courts granted them bails, she went on to say.

The PML-N leader said, "The selected government is about to be toppled," she said and added those swearing to allegations against Rana Sanaullah should resign. The former prime minister made the country an atomic power, laid the network of motorways and brought the country out of darkness," she stated.
