  • Jeremy Corbyn said he would not lead the Labour Party in another election.
  •  Johnson should now have the support he needs to take Britain out of EU early next year.

After months of political deadlock over the United Kingdom's bid to exit the European Union (EU), the UK voted in a general election on Thursday.

Result shows that Britain Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative party has won the overall majority which is a historic victory in the election. In his victory speech, Johnson told the audience of Tory activists that 'we did it'. He further said that he is humbled that people switched to the Tories and he will never take their support for granted.

The Conservatives win overall majority passing threshold of 364 seats. This means that now Johnson should have the support he needs to take Britain out of the EU early next year. The BBC forecast suggests the Tories will get 364 MPs, Labour 203, the SNP 48, the Lib Dems 12, Plaid Cymru four, the Greens one and the Brexit Party none.

Johnson will return to Downing Street with a majority of 74, which gives him enough MPs to get his Brexit deal through. "I think this will turn out to be a historic election that gives us now, in this new government, the chance to respect the democratic will of the British people," Johnson said after winning his seat of Uxbridge.

Whereas, Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party have lost seats across the North, Midlands and Wales in places which backed Brexit in 2016.  This is labour Party's worst result in decades. Following the exit polls result, Corbyn said it had been a very disappointing night and he would not lead his party into the next election. But, he added he would not be departing as Labour leader immediately.

PM Imran Khan and US President Donald Trump also took to their Twitter handle on Friday and wished the British PM.
