CBOT soyabean futures lower

Published Updated

Chicago Board of Trade soyabean futures closed lower on Friday, with the front contract falling below the $9-a-bushel mark for the first time in nearly two months, pressured by improving crop weather in South America and uncertainty about a US-China trade deal, traders said.

CBOT January soyabean futures settled down 4 cents at $8.97 per bushel.

For the week, the contract fell 21-1/4 cents a bushel or 2.3%, its third straight weekly decline.

CBOT December soyameal futures ended down $2 at $299 per short ton while December soyaoil rose 0.19 cent at 30.88 cents per pound.

CBOT soyaoil drew support from higher Malaysian palm oil futures, which touched a more than two-year high on prospects for lower production and stockpiles.

CBOT soyabeans lost ground to corn futures on inter-market spreads as traders exited long soya/short corn positions ahead of next week's US Thanksgiving holiday, traditionally a slow week for the grains trade.

Brazil's 2019/20 soyabean crop was 77.3% planted at the end of this week, up 6 percentage points from the previous week, consultancy ARC Mercosul said. However, the pace was behind the five-year average of 80.5%.
