HUBCO denies BYD plant delay, targets end-2026 launch: report
The update comes as HUBCO expands its investment in the automotive sector through BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer.
BYD officially entered Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market in March 2024. This move represented a significant milestone for BYD, marking its entry into one of South Asia’s largest markets.
The Chinese automaker partnered with Mega Conglomerate Pvt. Ltd. (Mega), which later clarified its association through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hub Power Holdings, and its associated company, Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited (MMC).
MMC is responsible for manufacturing, marketing, and distributing BYD-branded passenger EVs within Pakistan. HUBCO, the parent company of Mega Motor Company, has also indicated its interest in developing charging infrastructure as a natural extension of its power plants.
Meanwhile, the plant, located near Karachi, is a partnership between BYD and Mega Motor Company. It will initially have the capacity to produce 25,000 units per year on a double shift, with scalability to 50,000 units per annum.
