Chicago Board of Trade soyabean futures declined on Wednesday, with the bellwether January contract notching a seven-week low on doubts that the United States and China, the world's top soya buyer, will complete a trade deal this year, traders said.
Completion of a "phase one" US-China trade deal could slide into next year, trade experts and people close to the White House said, as Beijing presses for more extensive tariff rollbacks and the Trump administration counters with heightened demands of its own.
CBOT January soyabeans settled down 6-1/2 cents at $9.05 per bushel, with technical selling accelerating as the contract fell through chart support at $9.10. CBOT December soyameal ended down $2.20 at $299.80 per short ton.
Forecasts for improving crop weather in South America added to bearish sentiment in soyabeans and soyameal. However, CBOT December soyaoil rose 0.24 cent to end at 31.20 cents per pound, following as Malaysian palm oil futures surged to a three-year high.
