Published Updated

The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased 95,750 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender which closed on Friday, European traders said. The wheat was bought in two consignments comprising various wheat types for shipment from the US Pacific Northwest coast in January and February 2020, they said.

The first consignment for shipment Jan. 6-20 involved 25,800 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5% protein content bought at $281.76 a tonne FOB US Pacific Northwest coast, traders said. The seller was United Grain Corporation.

The first consignment involved 15,800 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5% protein content bought from trading house ADM at $239.17 a tonne FOB. Some 5,350 tonnes of soft white wheat with 9% protein was also bought from United Grain Corporation at $231.46 a tonne FOB.

The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $32.80 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said. The second consignment for shipment between Jan. 22 and Feb. 5 involved 26,750 tonnes of US northern spring wheat of 14.5% protein content bought at $268.92 a tonne FOB US Pacific Northwest coast from trading house CHS.

The second consignment included 16,300 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5% protein content bought at $239.17 a tonne FOB from ADM. A further 5,750 tonnes of soft white wheat of 9% protein was purchased at $226.38 a tonne FOB and also sold by CHS. The consignment has an additional freight charge of $31.62 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.
