ISLAMABAD: Minister for Climate Change Rana Farooq Saeed Saturday said 116 dead bodies of the plane crash victims have been handed over to their relatives.
Addressing a press conference he said, 119 bodies have already been identified. The dead bodies of 127 crash victims have been shifted to PIMS and I-9 cold storage in 160 bags.
The rescue and relief operation was over in five hours on Friday, however search for evidence, collection of belongings, clearance of debris and wreckage is still underway, he said.
Over 445 personnel 78 ambulance, 16 fire tenders and recovery vehicles of various departments participated in the operation.
The rescuers of Pakistan Army, Air Force, Navy, Rescue 1122, Fire Brigade of Capital Development Authority (CDA), Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Polyclinic, other local hospitals, Edhi Emergency Services and AL-Khidmat Foundation participated in the rescue operation.
Immediately after the crash National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) was activated at NDMA and a team of NDMA officers reached the spot for effective coordination and management of rescue and relief operations, the minister said.
The specialized Urban Search and Rescue Team of CDA was immediately mobilised for rescue of possible survivors of the aircraft as well as inhabitants of the locality.
Facilitation desks have already been established at PIMS, Benazir Bhutto International airport, and Quaid e Azam International Airport Islamabad and Quaid e Azam International Airport Karachi for providing service including free transportation of the relatives of deceased as well as dead bodies, he added.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Sindh is also coordinating facilitation at Karachi.
