QUETTA: Provincial capital Quetta and its surroundings received heavy rainfall which persistently continued until Friday afternoon after commencing yesterday late night.
The unprecedented heavy rain literally paralyzed the routine life as the rain water inundated all the roads and lanes in the provincial capital.
The poor sewerage system and chocked drains across the city completely failed to drain out the rain water. As a result the major roods including Mohammad Ali Jinnah Road, Liaqat Bazaar, Qandhari Bazaar, Zargoon Road turned into canal making movements of vehicular traffic and pedestrians almost impossible in the city.
The attendance at schools and public offices remained thin and bazaars presented a deserted look as the citizens preferred staying at home due to inundated roads.
It is pertinent to mention that the government has spent over Rs. 10 billion at Quetta Environment Improvement Porgramme under which the city will have to enjoy a well-designed sewerage system. The Programme management claims to have achieved 75 percent physical progress on the Programme.
