Punjab government asked to amend LG Act

The provincial Election Commission has directed the Punjab government to amend the Local Government Act and include provisions of the Election Act 2017 in it.

According to sources, the Election Commission reservations regarding holding of local bodies elections are yet in place despite repeated attempts to remove them by the Punjab government. So far, three meetings have taken place but the objections raised by the Election Commission are still intact, they added.
