Accountability process continues in Pakistan Army as three officers were dismissed from service on Thursday after they were found guilty of breach of discipline/misconduct. According to media wing of the military, three officers of the rank of major were awarded punishment on account of breach of discipline and misconduct.

"Upon found guilty of charges leveled against them, all three were dismissed from service while two were also awarded rigorous imprisonments for two years each," said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The charges against the convicted officers included misuse of authority and involvement in illegal activities unbecoming of an officer.

Earlier this year, a lieutenant general of the army was sentenced to prison, while a brigadier and civilian were awarded the death penalty for espionage-related activities. Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal (retd), Brigadier Raja Rizwan (retd), and Dr Wasim Akram, an employee at a sensitive organization, were convicted of espionage activities and leaking sensitive information.

Earlier, during the tenure of former Army Chief General Raheel Sharif in 2016, six high-ranking Pakistan Army officers, including a lieutenant-general and a major-general, had been sacked. The then Army Chief fired the senior servicemen only days after he had emphasized the need for across-the-board accountability for solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan.
